I Training Outcome

To train students with firmly correct political orientation under the guidance of Marxism. To provide practical, compound and innovative talents, through the reference to the goal and features of China’s higher education and the basis of industrial standards and social needs. Students, with strong faith in Marxism and correct political stance and orientation, possess both knowledge and capabilities in journalism and communication of all media. To cultivate international talents in journalism and communication who have global view and are competent in cross-cultural communication. After graduation, students can pursue advanced studies or take part in the work of press interview, editing, writing, photography, camera shooting, media products, cultural propaganda and communication and planning of social organizations at newspaper offices, radio station, TV station, periodical offices, publishing house, state organs, administrative publicity departments , companies’ public relations departments, cultural communication departments and network communication companies, etc.


II Training requirements

Students shall have the basic theoretical knowledge of journalism and accept the basic trainings in terms of business theory, methods and skills in journalism and communication. Therefore, they will gain knowledge and skills in aspects of journalism theories, communication theories, journalism ethics and regulations, Chinese and foreign history of journalism and communication, news interviews, news writing, news editing, news comments, photojournalism and camera shooting, production of radio & TV news, methods and technologies of new media communication and media operation and management, etc.


Graduates shall meet following requirements;

(I)Quality: (1) Political quality, which is to unswervingly adhere to the leadership of the Communist Party of China, to the correct political stance and orientation, to the Party values and principles in journalism work, to Marxist view of journalism, and to proper public opinion so as to safeguard national interests through observing law and discipline; (2) Moral quality. To stick to the basic principle of news authenticity and consider serving the country, the people and socialism with Chinese characteristics as social responsibilities and career goals; (3) Professional quality. Clearly understand the role at the work. Being optimistic, cooperative as well as competitive. Mastering the basic knowledge and skills of journalism and communication. Having entrepreneurship; (4) Physical quality. Sound mind and body. Reaching the standard stipulated in the National Student Physical Health Standard by the Ministry of Education.


(II) Capability: (1) A good master of theoretical learning, which is suitable for the work of journalism and communication. Knowing how to keep learning continuously; (2) Having practical ability and practical originality which can be adapted to the development of journalism and communication practices; (3) Mastering both excellent oral and written communication skills; (4) Being competent in computers and modern technology of new media; (5) Knowing the basic method of carrying out social scientific researches. Having ability to conduct social scientific survey and research;


(III) Knowledge: (1) Mastering theoretical knowledge and basic skills of journalism and communication as well as the extensive and solid knowledge in humanities and social science; (2) Knowing well of policies, guidelines and related regulations publicized by the Party and the country; (3) Keeping abreast of the latest movement and trend of the industry. Having the development trend of related fields at abroad in hand; (4) Knowing well the basic knowledge and relevant application of computers and modern technologies of new media; (5) A good master of a foreign language that can be used into practice skillfully in terms of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating; (6) Having scientific dialectical thinking . Knowing how to conduct a survey on humanities and social sciences; (7) Obtaining principles and theories in media operation and management. Having certain knowledge and required ability necessary for marketing, media research, media planning and operation; (8) Knowing well the knowledge and skills of being innovative as entrepreneurs; Having original thinking and the required quality and ability for entrepreneurship.


III Main Discipline and Core Courses

Main discipline: Journalism and communication


Core courses: Marxist thought in journalism and communication, introduction of journalism, introduction of communication, the history of China’s journalism and communication and the history of world’s journalism and communication, news interview and writing, news editing, news comments, photojournalism, radios & TV news, media ethics and norms, media operation and management and the introduction of new media.


Practical teaching plans: practice teaching (six weeks); academic year thesis (four weeks); graduation internship (six weeks);graduation thesis (ten weeks).


Main experiments: photojournalism, electronic periodicals editing, camera shooting for television and production of radio & TV program, etc.


IV Features and Orientation of the Major

Features: To meet the needs of the journalism development, take advantage of disciplinary planning as a comprehensive university, lay stress on social practicality of applied-oriented disciplines as well as strengthen the blending of related disciplines. To build a talent-training base which is open to journalism research, journalism education and journalism talents, under the guidance of modern journalism science, with the approach of multidiscipline-oriented education, on the basis of modern teaching ideas and methods and the consideration of all kinds of news media as practical teaching networks.

VII Qualified Standards for Graduation

(1) Having both good thinking quality and physical quality, which conform to standard of moral education and physical education stipulated by school.

(2) Through all teaching plans required in the training program, students should gain accumulated 150 credits, including 132 credits from course-teaching and 18 credits from practical teaching.

(3) Completing extra-curricular training plan to acquire another eight credits.
